Things That Go Storytime (Jan 2024)

I am way behind on this post, I know. I have gotten overwhelmed at work and with life, but here it is. Better late than never!

Night Light by Nicholas Blechman

Mighty, Mighty Construction Site by Sherri Rinker

The Pigeon Loves Things That Go! by Mo Willems (toddler and baby)

Songs We Sang

Wheels on the Bus

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

Round and round, round and round.

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

All through the town.

Repeat with: wipers go swoosh, doors go open and shut, horn goes beep, babies go waa, etc.

Hurry, Hurry

Hurry, hurry, drive the firetruck.

Hurry, hurry, drive the firetruck.

Hurry, hurry, drive the firetruck.

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.

Repeat with: turn the corner, climb the ladder, spray the water.

Slowly, slowly, back to the station.

Slowly, slowly, back to the station.

Slowly, slowly, back to the station.

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom

Zoom, zoom, zoom, we’re going to the moon.

Zoom, zoom, zoom, we’re going to the moon.

If you want to take a trip,

Climb aboard my rocket ship.

Zoom, zoom, zoom, we’re going to the moon.

Early Literacy Tip

While in the car or walking around, point out letters and words on signs and other objects you see.

For the baby and toddler group I recommended they practice symbolic sounds and explanatory words like Brum, Zoom, Beep beep, Honk, and more!

Flannel Activity

I have used this flannel activity in the past and it never fails to be exciting. They each get a couple of vehicles depending on how many kids I have and I sing this song that I adapted from Storytime Katie!

To the tune of Do You Know the Muffin Man:

Do you have a blue airplane, a blue airplane, a blue airplane

If you have a blue airplane,

Please put it up here.

Then they come up to the board and add their vehicles in crazy ways and have a blast.

How It Went

This is a week I knew I would be missing part of for a vacation and I always like to choose a simple and popular topic for whoever covers for me. These songs are so well known and are a crowd pleaser so you really can’t go wrong. I had a pile of books for my sub to choose from so they could read something they enjoyed and I skipped a craft to limit their prep and cleanup time. From what I heard, this storytime was a hit!
